Bald Eagle
- The Bald Eagle became the national emblem of the United States in 1782.
- In the mid-20th century, the bald eagle seemed to be almost extinct
- Bald eagles were becoming almost extinct because of a new threat, which is called DDT. It is a chemical that farmers use to keep away insects(Pesticide).
- This affected them by causing them to not have safe, healthy eaglets which led to decrease in population
- In 1995, the bald eagle was taken off the endangered species list because the government banned DDT and started to breed the eagles.
